NetBeans Open Project Window Finally Fixed!

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

In NetBeans, to open an existing project, you often go to File > Open Project and
use the file/directory chooser to navigate a myriad of directories to locate your project.

Until now, if you double-clicked a directory that was flagged as a NetBeans project it
would simply open the directory in the file chooser window. You would have to actually
click the Open button to cause the project to open.

In NetBeans 6 Milestone 10 - (M10), and in any recent daily build,
you can now double-click the project in the file chooser and it will open
the project.

Yes, this is only a minor annoyance, but if you frequently search for older projects
that are not in your recent projects list this is a great improvement.

New Book Review on JavaLobby

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

The book, Pro NetBeans IDE 5.5 Enterprise Edition, was recently reviewed by Meera Subbarao on JavaLobby. Meera has provided a chapter-by-chapter breakdown,
positives/negatives, and overall rating for the book.

Excerpt from the review… ‘If you are planning on using NetBeans than I suggest this is
the book which will help you smoothly transit to this IDE. Sun has several demos, tutorials, articles on each and every topic. But, if you need a book to read, than this is it. As I mentioned earlier with numerous screen shots, short cuts and tips, this book should and will make you a NetBeans expert.’
